that;s because, unless it is a French dish (like filet mignon), British
English writes and says "fillet".  Other American adaptations of French
words that make me cringe are "bleu" pronounced blue (we have constant tv
ads for a cooking course with Le Cordon Bleu, pronounced Lay Cordon Blue,
that have made me nearly tear all my hair out with frustration) and beef
sandwiches served "with au jus" to dip in...
