According to the Extras section of "The Quiet Man" DVD it was filmed
in and around the village of Cong, County Mayo and on the grounds of
Cong's Ashford Castle. There is an interview with one of John Wayne's
children who talks about going on the shoot to Ireland with his dad.
There is also mention of the fact that the village got electricity for
the first time during the shoot. Everyone was celebrating until they
discovered they had to pay for it; then they wanted it taken out.
About "Lassie, Come Home." I don't know, but I wonder if it had to be
filmed in the US because it was made at the height of WWII in 1943. I
mean I don't know if that was an issue or not; but, maybe?
