Geoff:
I'm not sure that the initial *colour* is defined. COS refers to a "bubbling 
treacle-thick Potion" (COS "The Polyjuice Potion"p.161 UK edition) which 
possibly implies the colour of treacle.

The other references on the same page are that Goyle's hair produces a 
khaki colour and Crabbe's darky, murky brown.

Possibly a reflection of their characters?
