That may be :-). It just seems a little strange if you, for instance,
call a male fallow deer "a stag" :-). Fallow deer are kind of small
and cute, and they don't look "that" impressive or majestic, even with
big antlers :-):

Wikipedia also says that males and females of the largest deer (I
don't know whom they mean, elk, maybe?) are called like cattle - bulls
and cows :-).
P.S. A few weeks ago some crazy guy killed a white-tailed deer that
lived in a park where we used to go for walks ;-(. Park visitors
always loved that deer, he was very tame and all. His name was
"Mr.Buck", BTW ... ;-(.
