There is another UK expression "Always look on the bright side" which, in
some ways, carries a subtly different nuance to the "silver lining" one.
I still tend to favour (2) of your list but, on reflection, I now feel led to put
forward an alternative which would be something like "Well, that's a
relief to hear".
