You got them right.  Usually though people just say "gas" and "stick."

I think I know another term which differs--

windscreen... windshield

I lurk a lot.  So, I do remember following that conversation at the time.  It was quite interesting.

Ah ha.  That clears that up.   I understand now.  The only "tin hat" I could think of is the one worn by the Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz
