Other books like the Harry Potter series books?

Certainly in agreement with Narnia. On my own shelves, you will also find 
LOTR (of course) plus the "Weirdstone of Brisingamen"/"Moon of Gomrath" 
duo by Alan Garner, written in the 1960s but still rattling good 'overlapping 
worlds' type stories set in the North of England.
