hi all -
hey rob, i grew up in san antonio. i went to clark hs, class of 97, hehe.
so i agree that as a movie itself, it rocked. i also agree that the things they left
out, although they may seem nitpicky, were essential to the flow of the hp
series. how could they have left out something as important as the stag being
james' animagus and lupin being one of the authors of the map? there were
also not enough hints at the fact that the dog was sirius, and flat out saying
he was after harry and seeing him in the crystal ball saying "harry potter" was
sorta not right. i mean, he was only saying "he's at hogwarts" and they totally
left out the fact that he went to ron's bed. i was also a bit disappointed at the
firebolt ending rather than the "my godfather's a convicted murderer who
broke out of wizard prison and likes to write to me" ending.
onto patrick's "they added crap" thing. well, yeah, they did add and change
things that were a bit crappy, but a couple of things they added that i totally
adored were: the r/h moments, which i love coz i'm an r/h shipper, and the
guys in their dorm room eating those candies on their first night back at
hogwarts. to me it was like, jk rowling wrote the heart-felt sentence "they
reached their familiar, circular dormitory with its five four-poster beds and
harry, looking around, felt he was home at last", and cuaron was able to bring
it to the screen brilliantly. something else they changed (approaching 3 good
things, hehe) that i enjoyed was trelawney's speech to hermione about her
not having the eye and clinging desperately to her books etc. it was
hilariously delivered and so much more hard-hitting than in the book. i feel
like trelawney is probably like that, but i'm not sure if, the way she's written,
really gives ppl the impression that she can be sarcastic rather than just flaky.
i dunno, i'll definitely see the movie a few more times before i buy the dvd. i
wouldn't mind going to see it at the imax, but i'd have to go to san antonio for
that since it's not showing at the imax here.
anyway, i think that's enough of an email for now. it's good to have off-topic
chat as well so if anyone wants to get into it, it's cool. i'm afraid i'll have to
reply to everything seperately tho, as to not confuse myself. it's fun to have a
little group. wonder if it'll grow!
ciao,
cristina :)
