I'm really excited to have found this club! I love Harry, but before now
I haven't found any stimulating conversation on the web about him. To
introduce myself, I'm a female high school senior (I hope that qualifies
me as an adult) from Colorado, and in the process of writing my college
essay based on Harry.
I do have a question for all of you. It seems to me that parts of
the books, especially the third, have been rather dark and kind of
scary. Yet, every child I know from second grade on up is reading these
books. Not only that, but Ms. Rowling has promised the following novels
to be even darker. I don't know if I would read these books to a second
grader. The one I talked to liked them, but wouldn't let me read her
any while babysitting because she said she'd be too scared to sleep
afterwards. I think many parents are going with the trend and not
evaluating the appropriateness based on age. Any comments?
