I agree that we have to be VERY "cautiously hopeful" I have learned
to enter a movie theatre with NO expectations. And in the case of a
favorite book made into a film, I try to think of the film as a totally
different entity. The media are so different. One being internal and
the other external.
The special effects, in this day and age, should be excellent. It's the
directors concept that we have to worry about. Not even a director's
loving the book is necessarily a warrenty. Remember that awful movie
of "the Lord of the Rings"? I was sorry that I ever saw it. As for the
screenplay, at least JWR has input, though even that isn't a guarantee. As
said above, screen plays are very different from novels. Jim
