Hi all:
I'm so glad we got some discussion going! Skimmel (I'm in Houston too by
the way) -- I really enjoyed reading the parallels you came up with. Very
insightful! I also liked the final scenario you imagined. I do think Harry
will eventually have to defeat Voldemort *without* Dumbledore. Whether Ron
& Hermione will be in on the final action or not is interesting to ponder.
I *will* miss Oliver! I also hadn't thought of that one yet. I think
Harry might well be chosen captain next year. But, it wouldn't be too
surprising for it to be one of the Weasleys (or co-captains); they are
very well-liked.
Here's what I think on the ages: I have no hard evidence to support it,
but I think that it is likely that Percy was a 7th year in Book 3 and
won't be at Hogwarts in Book 4. I really need to re-read soon, but wasn't
he a prefect in Bks 1 & 2? It would stand to reason that they could be
prefects for perhaps 2 or 3 years, but probably Head Boy & Head Girl are a
"sr year" sort of honor. It also seemed as though Mrs. Weasley thought
it was time for the twins to have been named prefects at the beginning
of Bk 3 (and I *think* the twins are 5th years in that one). I sort of
gather that the Weasley kids are all 2 years apart in age, except for
Ron and Ginny who must be only one year apart in age. Perhaps others
will have more solid evidence to support the ages of the Weasleys.
I just re-read Sorcerer -- do we know (or does anyone have any theories
regarding) why Dumbledore had possession of James Potter's invisibility
cloak?
