<<Anyway, apparently some store in NY had accidentally set out a copy and
they sold it (how stupid would the bookstore clerk have had to be??).>>
<<<<This has totally confused me>>>>
Me too.
Are we expected to believe that someone who works in a bookshop would
not know the significance of Harry Potter books? It's inconceivable,
even if it were their very first day at work and they were, by chance,
also a complete imbecile who had been living in a cave since 1996.
Imagine the scene: Every day, the bookshop worker has to edge past a
massive, cardboard model of Hogwarts Castle, emblazoned with the words
"Harry Potter 4 - COMING SOON," past chest-high stacks of JK Rowling's
collected works to date, and past a jaunty collage of wizards hats and
broomsticks created by local schoolchildren.
One day, the worker arrives at work and stumbles across something in
the stock room: "Why, here are eight lonely copies of the new Harry
Potter book. Why don't I put them out front under that sign that says,
'BUY BOOK 4 HERE - 8th JULY!'?" thinks the worker, before beetling into
the shop, arranging the books neatly, and returning to stare into blank
space, dribbling thoughtfully.

On the other hand, if there were originally 100 books on display in
that shop, and the guy bought his daughter one of the last few, it's
also rather unlikely that we would have heard *so* little about the
book. Funny, eh, that we've just been teased with the chapter titles
and a hint of text?
COME OFF IT!!!!
