I agree with the Wal-Mart assesment. I live in a small town with a
"Super" one. I tried to boycott the place because, once the store
opened all the small local independent stores disappeared, one
by one. I used to have some great little shops that I patronized
regularly(comic,book,music,etc..) but they did not have the ability to
compete. Eventually I had to capitulate of course, but how I longed to see
the faces of the "old stores" who knew me by name and always stocked stuff
"just for me". Kinda makes me feel like sheep to go to Wal-Mart now. The
days of customer service and knowledgable dealers are long gone. The
alternative of the web has made this transition a little easier for me,
but the nostalgia is still strong.

ps- Happy 4th to everyone here in America! Though I am sure that the
8th is gonna be more celebrated by quite a few!
