Snape is almost like a henchman to Dumbledore and is 'trapped' because
he owes him something, and for this reason, I think he resents Harry
bitterly. Harry is Dumbeldore's proteg' - an 'berwizard in training -
who, to Snape's mind, has pushed him into a lesser role.

Once he'd switched from the dark side to the light, Snape still craved
power by association, so he served Dumbledore unfailingly and did his
bidding, in much the same way as Wormtail serves Voldemort.

The arrival of Harry at Hogwarts was a huge blow to Snape. Here was the
very boy who, in surviving his attack, had defeated Voldemort. Snape
wanted so badly to prove himself to Dumbledore, but had never really
got the chance; Harry always saved the day. Harry the hero. Harry the
invincible.

At the end of Book 5, Dumbledore, assigns Snape an important role
in countering the rise of Voldemort. Snape's eyes glitter with
glee. Naturally. At last, it's his turn for the limelight.

Okay, that's another one of my off-my-head theories. I'm afraid I also
think Dumbledore is not nearly as saintly as he appears. We shall see.
