So there were attacks on the Oz books, huh? Just shows how much I knew
about that. : ) In that case, we should also ban Cinderella, because
her fairy Godmother clearly practiced transfiguration when she changed
the mice to horses, and a pumpkin into a carriage. We must also do away
with Snow White, since the evil queen definitely misused potions when
she made that poison apple. In fact, I suppose we'd best do completely
away with the Grimm Brothers and Hans Christian Andersen. I wonder just
where it would stop? In the light of what we have read or recall about the
various book burnings through the ages, it's a pretty frightening thought.
As for separation of church and state as it pertains to school libraries,
if all books containing references to religion were removed from schools,
I wonder how many books would actually be left? I seem to remember
reading Gift of the Magi in school, but of course it would have to be
put aside since it is a Christmas story. When you actually stop and
think about the repercussions, it borders on the ridiculous, doesn't it?
