Hey. I've been going over previous messages, and I've come up with some
theories that can cover some of the questions that I remember from long
long ago...

Okay. First of all, we were talking about how in book 4, Molly Weasley
mentioned that Hagrid wasn't gamekeeper when she and Arthur were back
in school. I seem to remember some questions as to when Hagrid would
have been gamekeeper if he was expelled 50+ years ago. Well, we can
be pretty sure that Molly and Arthur weren't in school 50 years ago,
even if they're at least 10 years older than Harry's parents and co. So
where was Hagrid? Well, remember, Dumbledore wasn't headmaster when
Hagrid was expelled. In fact, we don't know exactly WHEN he became
headmaster. So! As we know Hagrid did NOT become gamekeeper until
Dumbledore became headmaster, there MUST have been some (long?) time
period where there was the regular gamekeeper on staff, and Hagrid was
just wandering around. This explains how Molly and Arthur had a different
gamekeeper while they were at school. However, it does open up room for
these two questions: 1) Was Dumbledore headmaster when Molly and Arthur
were in school, and 2)Where was Hagrid, and what was he doing in those
years he was unemployed??
I know I've gone on long enough, but I just wanted to mention something
else.
Neil, your comment on the parallel barking test - well, my first reaction
(I'm sorry to say) was (in Hermione's voice) "But he doesn't HAVE his
licence, does he?" *Then* I groaned (and laughed) at the pun. ;) Sorry
I'm such a "swot".
