Lloyd Alexander:
The Book of Three
The Black Cauldron
The Castle of Llyr
Taran Wanderer
The High King
also known as the Chronicles of Prydain.
The High King was Newberry Award winner for 1969
Taran, the assistant pig-keeper who wants to be a hero, the bard Fflewddur
Fflam, Princess Eilonwy, and the pig Hen Wen (who is an oracle).
This is a medieval story, derived from Welsh legend, with maybe a touch
of Arthur. They are fun, and worth finding. Name -dropping: I've met
Alexander; he came for a visiting author's speech here several years
ago. Wonderful gentleman.
