<<He no longer obeys them and even refers to them as Muggles in his
response to Ron.>>

Which gets me wondering- do all wizards who go home to muggle families
over the summer think of their families as "those silly muggles" or do
those who are surrounded by love and caring (as Hermione's parents seem
to) think their families are "those silly idiots"? I seem to remember
that when we were teenagers, a lot of my friends (and even, occasionally,
me, despite the terriffic relationship I've always had with my parents)
thought their families were just the dorkiest, the most clueless, the
most uncaring - would it just naturally be even more pronounced in a
household with one teenaged wizard?
I guess this tags onto the Would Harry Be Rebelling Against the Dursleys
Even Without Having Magic? and I think the answer would be, just a little
bit, yes. And if Dudley knew what was good for him, he'd ask his parents
for another bike & sneak off to the candy shop (but probably wouldn't
fit on the bike in the first place)
