The second thing has to do with Sirius being the person that came
to Harry's mind when he was trying to think of an adult whom he could
confide in like a parent. I know that Sirius is his godfather and was
his father's best friend. But he's also the guy who played a potentially
fatal joke on Snape. It's not that I actually object (I loathe Snape)
but it was hardly the sign of a kind and generous person. More importantly
this is the guy who was willing to go over, under, or through the person
he was supposed to be protecting to get to the person he was supposed
to be protecting him from. And he had to be forcibly restrained from
Pettigrew after that. If it'd been me, the first person who would have
come to mind would have been someone who 1) I knew better; 2) had already
been confiding in; 3) obviously also cared for me; 4) kept his head in a
crisis. Of course he does have that one little flaw that shows up every
month but I still would have gone to Lupin. I have to admit that I was not
a big Sirius fan at the end of 3 and, although I do like him better now,
I still prefer Lupin. Of course I'm not Harry and neither am I creator of
this universe. Just wondering if anyone else had thought the same thing.

Well, you are talking to a big time Sirius fan here...so here goes...
1st: about the joke on Snape...Sirius always seemed like the kind of
guy who acted on his ideas without necessarily thinking through the
consequences...particularly at a young age...I'm thinking that Sirius
just didn't think about it being a potentially lethal joke,...after all
he had been hanging out with a werewolf and was not harmed...

2nd: on the events at the shrieking shack...he had been in Azkaban for
12 years because of Pettigrew...I don't get the impression at all that
he would have harmed Harry to get to Pettigrew, but he would be damned
if he was going to let him get away again...

finally like penny said in an earlier post...Harry and Lupin had
developed a good teacher student relationship...but it was very rarely
personal....as a godparent you are the one the parents choose to protect
your child if anything happens to you...Sirius was that person to James
and Lily and Sirius seems to take that seriously....Lupin never suggested
that Harry come live with him...or offered to communicate or contact
Harry when he left Hogwarts....

isn't it strange how different people get different impressions of
characters for some reason I have always pictured Remus much older than
he is described, I know I have to somehow alter that impression in my
mind, but its real hard...I also see Remus as a more emotionally remote
person..whereas Sirius is a more emotionally intense person...

just my thoughts...
