This is a question that many people asked when they reached the surprise
ending of Goblet of Fire:

Lee: I find myself wondering why Death Eater Moody would work so hard
at teaching Harry how to resist the Imperius curse.

Me: Lots of people asked that in the e-mail-lists. I wasn't the only
person who answered that Croody/Mouch had to teach the stuff that
Dumbledore had told him to teach, to avoid rousing suspicion.

Lee: It's out of character for *Dumbledore* to want the students taught
curses.

Me: In order to defend against them.

Lee: That's what fake Moody said, but we can't take his word for
anything. I won't believe that Dumbledore told him to teach curses unti
I see someone reliable tell me so.

Me: O.k.a.y, what's y.o.u.r theory?

Lee: He and Riddle both seem concerned about fighting honorably.
