Is anyone else having trouble picturing the entire wizarding population
wearing pointed hats all the time? I know that in the books, students and
teachers are frequently referred to as wearing their hats, but my mind
simply will not allow it. I always picture everyone hatless, with a few
exceptions during formal occasions and whatnot. I wonder if they will
include the hats in the movie -- to my mind it will look pretty silly.
We've also had the clothing debate -- what do the students wear under
their robes? JKR seems ambivalent about this... sometimes the kids have
clothes on underneath (example - they remove their robes when hiking
up to Sirius's hideout in GoF), and sometimes they seem to have only
underwear (at the end of GoF, in the infirmary, Harry simply removes his
robe and puts on pajamas). In most of the Mary GrandPre illustrations,
Harry is shown to be wearing regular jeans, t-shirt, sneakers with a robe
over his shoulders, despite descriptions in the text of floor-length,
all-encompassing ROBES.
Personally, I prefer the clothes under the robe picture, such as the
illustration at the beginning of Chapter 17 (my favorite!).
