He clearly *has* an inferior sort of body, which is why I made the
suggestion that V is inhabiting/animating perhaps a pitiful wreck that
used to be human (perhaps Bertha's) in Chap 1 of GOF.
Or perhaps he had possessed some sort of animal - one with opposable
thumbs, though!
or perhaps he inhabited a Mini-Me Lord V! :-)
Or perhaps one of his anti-death precautions was a piece of himself cut
off and kept alive through magical means (the old "I can't be killed
because I do not keep my heart in my body" magic trick as used by certain
magicians, and by Mad Hettie in _Sandman_.
See Niven, _The Magic Goes Away_, for unpleasant consequences to dark
magicians who use magic to prevent themselves being killed.... Wavyhill
was chopped into itty bitty bits but was STILL ALIVE AND SCREAMING....
or would if there was enough of a respiratory tract and vocal cords
left....
If part of V. himself was left somewhere and recovered, the cauldron
makes even more sense - rather like growing a whole being by magically
cloning surviving cells. The spirit re-inhabits and and hey presto,
we're in deep kimchi all of a sudden....
