Crookshanks

This is totally off topic for GoF, but does anyone else believe that
Crookshanks is more than just a cat? I'm starting to have the feeling that
he may be another unregistered animagus who is in hiding, like Sirius. In
the first place, he immediately went for Scabbers in the shop, and spent
the rest of PoA keeping a very close eye on him. He also was assisting
Sirius, in obtaining the list of passwords from Neville, and in carrying
the order for the Firebolt for Sirius. I think he's going to turn out
to be one of those "lurkers" like Scabbers, who is just hanging around
in the story until some surprise moment when his identity is revealed.

On another note, HOW did Peter Pettigrew come to be the pet rat of Percy
(and later Ron)? I'd like to hear the story behind that particular
business, too. (Antenna quivering....)
