I think Snape was to Harry's father as Draco is to Harry. Someone with a
real hunger for power and adulation, who resents terribly the classmate
who has all the gifts of popularity and success. Imagine if Draco grew
up and (Merlin forbid!) became a professor at Hogwarts. I can see him
hating a student who was the son of Harry Potter. If a person like
Snape or Draco is sufficiently small-minded and morally deficient,
the resentment of their childhood could easily carry over into adulthood.
