Female- no
Parent-yes
teacher-no
writer- a little for my own enjoyment
witch- not that i am aware of- Still waiting for a letter from Hogwarts

It all started with my son Brian who is an advanced reader for his young
six years. He was forced to change schools when we moved, so his teacher
gave him the first book as a going away gift for us to read to him and
later for him to read to himself. My wife proceeds to read it to him
and gets hooked. She then buys the other two and goes off the deep end.

Since my son wants to hear it again, she gets me to read it aloud to
him. We take turns reading aloud to our sons. I was reading along to
him and started to make up different voices for the characters. Aunt
Petunia sounds like one of the Monty Python characters in drag. Vernon
is the uptight english businessman's voice.

But then I started reading Hagrid in my best Scottish accent and fell
in love with the story. I worked with a few Scotsmen and his voice is
a combination of all the things I remember. Kind of like Sean Connery
after a full night of drinking. I was saddened when we had to quit reading
each night for him to go to bed. So after the first book, I proceeded to
read the other two to myself so I can understand the weird conversations
between my son and his mother about the Harry Potter stories.

I practically ignored my in-laws over the Easter weekend even though we
had driven 300 miles to see them because I was trying to finish the third
book and they kept interrupting me! They kept wanting to talk about the
Elian Gonzalez story and I wanted to know what was going to happen next
in the shrieking shack. So I stayed up a few minutes later each night
until I finished POA.

I haven't read books with this enthusiasm since I read Ray Bradbury
books back in high school. I did like the Douglas Adams books too since
someone mentioned them in another post. My wife has been converting
all her friends and her mom to the Harry Potter books. I have briefly
mentioned them at work to people who can't comprehend the phenomenon
unless they have kids.
