Hi Neil and all
>I had a look at your club page and dutifully entered my e-mail address
(BTW, is that witch wearing a bikini?).
Yes... it look as though she is doesn't it. Do you like the Logo?
>Note...it says "Rowing" at the bottom of the page.
Thanks for spotting that one. Proof reading has never been my strong
point, and a spell checker would pick up on that one. Pages have now
been updated with the correct spelling.
>I'm interested in the fact that Warner Brothers own the trademark
'Harry Potter'. Is that the name itself or the logo they use?
Unknown... from my discussions with their solicitors in London, it
appears they have filed for a trademark of the name itself.
>I would have assumed that the author or publishers owned the rights to
the name.
Yes, they own the rights to the use of the name, but they do not
automatically own the trademark - at least, that's my understanding. Do
we have a Lawyer in the house?
As a lot of the Harry Potter Properties (as they are known) have been
given over to Warner Bros (for a high fee no doubt), Warner do seem to
be the Big Guys in control.
>I gather you had some legal trouble over a previous web site??? It's
a bit of a minefield (cough - I'm speaking from experience).
Only a wee bit... cough, cough. I don't know why, but Warner UK took a
disliking to my main site (formerly www.harrypotterisawizard.co.uk)
After a good few months of battles with their solicitors, the domain
was handed over to them. They also have my www.doomspell.co.uk domain,
but that appears to be still inactive - so does that tell us something
about the title of book 4?
>What do you envisage doing with this fan club?
Well, the aim is for a club, run by fans, for fans. So... your input is
requested as to what you would like from a fan club. The main idea will
be to run it something like the way The International Wizard Of Oz club
is run. But to start with, due to cost implications, the club will be
based on-line, rather than accepting postal memberships.
>Won't it be a bit difficult to run it, if it doesn't have the support
of the author/publishers etc. Have they commented on your idea?
Yes it might be... however I keep asking Jo about having an International
Club, and am getting no where - thus, for now, the immediate plan is to
establish how many people would like to join such a club, and in doing so,
convince Jo and the powers at be, that a club would be worthwhile having.
>Anyway, good luck with it.
Thanks, think I will need it. Assistance is required with the club... so
anyone who wants to offer help, let me know.
Nick
