I must admit I'm a bit concerned about the article's assertions that the
books will grow ever darker. If this next book is pretty scary/somber
as advertised, then I wish Book 5 would act as a bit of light, upbeat
relief. Baum's Oz books always alternated between darker and more humorous
storylines and I think that was wise of him. If the style of the Harry
Potter series follows an uninterrupted linear trend toward dark, downbeat
storylines, I think it will only destroy all the progress the series
has made in offering quality literature to children and adults alike.
I threw _Jo's Boys_ and _Mostly Harmless_ across the room in disgust
because they were such somber, depressing conclusions to their respective
series... I hope I won't be doing the same with Harry Potter VII.
