"<Which actually brings me to my second point: are we fans or fanatics?>

There is a difference?"

Yes there is. Although 'fan' is short for 'fanatic', it has a milder
meaning in common usage.

Fan = enthusiastic devotee/ardent admirer.

Fanatic = someone who is excessively and often uncritically enthusiastic.

Obviously, as recent evidence suggests, some children and teenagers are
being fanatical in their behaviour about HP!

I would expect most adults to be fans rather than fanatics (and we are
'critical' in this group, it's safe to say). However, there are cases
of 60-year old men filling their houses with, say, Elvis memorabilia,
and selling all their worldly goods in the name of their obsession.

Has anyone gone that far with HP or think they might? That was the point
of my question...
