Since we're looking back to the good ol' days, I wonder if anyone here
remembers the UK TV series, "Catweazle", starring Geoffrey Bayldon? It
was made in the early 1970s and developed cult status, so I guess it
made it as far as the US and elsewhere.

As a hapless wizard, hurled into the 70s from an earlier age, Catweazle
had a hesitant fascination with modern technology, which was similar to
that demonstrated by The Weasley family in the HP series. He would call
the telephone, the "telling bone", for example, and command electrical
equipment to work. He also had a familiar, a toad called Touchwood.

He didn't comment on the ugly flares and tank-tops worn by the other
characters though, but probably assumed that they had been cursed.

I think I'll dig around the shops for a video copy.

PS. I've just spent 45 mins reading all the posts from last night -
masochist that I am, I have to read every single one! Now, I'll go
back and comment on a few. At some point today, the rest of my life
will begin...
