I suppose if I wanted to be on topic, I would say that the only space
program the wizard folk care about is when they fly beyond the atmosphere
on their brooms, or Apparate (help! I need more info on Apparating!) to
the moon.... (as shown in one of the SO YOU WANT TO BE WIZARD? children's
novels)
The first 'faster, cheaper' mission indeed was also 'better' -- the Mars
mission that bounced to a successful landing on Fourth of July and had the
whole USA watching a two-foot-tall robot geologist on TV, remember? That
was *much* more exciting that anything about the shuttle. Like the
old-time science fiction story series VENUS EQUILATERAL, it shows what
engineers and dreamers can do when the military officers and bureaucrats
get off their backs!!!
