"Maybe some nice Unitarian fact checker at the publishers aletred the
editors to the fact that "Chalice of Fire" is the symbol of the Unitarian
 Universalist Association."

A pretty likely explanation, since the book seems to have been called
"Chalice of Fire" at some point in its history.

But, 'Goblet'? Even "Cup of Fire" would sound better. When I hear the
word goblet I think of 'gobbet' and have a mental image of someone
spitting a lump of meat at me across a meal table.
