What do we know about Cho Chang? She is Ravenclaw which makes her less
suspect than a Slytherin. (I admit it. I consider all Slytherins to be
guilty until proven innocent.) Harry finds her to be pretty. And she
makes Harry's heart flutter.
I don't remember Cho Chang being as passive a Quidditch seeker as you guys
seem to remember her. I recall Harry thinking she was an excellent flier
who periodically cut Harry off and forced him to change directions and
such. I do remember her spending some time chasing Harry. But then Harry
was flying a Firebolt and nobody was able to keep up with one of those.
And her name implies that she is oriental.
All in all, I have no complaints about Cho Chang as a possible match
for Harry. However, I don't know anybody who ended up with someone they
were infatuated with as a 13 year old. Harry has some maturing to do
before he finds the long-term Miss Right. So Miss Chang, while perhaps
not Miss Wrong, is probably just Miss First Puppy Love. (Remember that
we have no hint of anything as pleasant as puppy love from Harry's time
with the Dursley's.) Perhaps will get to see Harry suffer through the
pains of a lost first love with Cho Chang.
The folks I know who did end up with someone they knew when they were
13 years old knew the other person as a friend or an acquaintance for
years before love bloomed for them. That makes a Ginny or Hermione match
more likely. Given that Ron can hardly be matched with Ginny, Ginny is
the logical match for Harry.
But wait a second. Is there any hint of romance within a house? Percy and
(I've forgotten her name) are from different houses. I can see where the
school would go to great lengths to discourage such ... activity. Perhaps
Harry has been too young to notice.
