Hi all
I posted this message yesterday and it was there, but now it isn't. Anyone
else had that problem before??? I'll try to recreate what I said
yesterday.
LUPIN: Yes, I adore him too! I was really sorry to see him go, and I
hope we'll see more of him in later books (he did tell Harry that he
was sure they'd meet again and Rowling doesn't add stuff like that as
filler). He will be a hard act to follow as Defense Against the Dark
Arts instructor. POA is my favorite so far -- largely because of Lupin
and Black (but also because of those dizzying plot twists that keep you
in suspense for the last 150 pages or so!).
JAMES POTTER: Well, we definitely don't know for sure whether Voldemort
was after him too or if he killed him to get at Harry as he did with
Lily. But, I've wondered if the fact that he shouted "Run for it with
Harry. I'll hold him off" -- is that an implication that the real target
was Harry and James thought he could buy Lily time to spirit Harry away??
We know that Dumbledore had tipped off the Potters that Voldemort was
after "them" (so arguably he *was* after both male Potters since we know
he didn't care about Lily). Or maybe it was mainly James he was after,
but decided Harry might be enough like his father to be a threat. One
could argue that also.
We also know from the teachers' conversation that Harry, Ron & Hermione
overheard in Hogsmeade that Voldemort had been after them "about a year"
before the attack, right? That coincides nicely with Harry's birth
(he was exactly 15 months old when his parents were killed). Perhaps he
really was the sole target.
Hopefully this will get posted (and my original post won't miraculously
appear, thereby creating repetition). Seems like I said more last night
though. <g>
