Thanks Norevoli (hope I spelled it right)
I was reminded by your comments that CS Lewis was not just a Christian
but a Theologian Scholar - he stated many times that his books were
meant to show children the wonder of doing good, and living a Christian
lifestyle through stories they could relate to. I think Harry Potter is
much the same.
It seems strange to say, not meaning to offend anybody here, but the
majority of dissentors are in America. I am from England originally,
and have lived in the States for three years now. I received a Christian
upbringing and education, both in public school and Sunday school. Not
once was I ever told what I could and could not read, and I would never
presume to tell anybody else that. If you don't think the books are any
good, in any way, ignore them. People CAN bring up their own children.
I'm sorry, this seems to have turned into a bit of a rant. It's just I
think freedom is something highly valued in all religions. I love the
art and writings of William Blake. Both sides - the religious side and
his "darker" side. If you seek to ban things, then maybe you should try
living in a society where you are not free to pracise your religion. Then
perhaps you will see what living under other peoples rules and bans is
a terrible thing, be it a book, or a socio-economic situation.
OK - going to stop now - please dont get me started again! (sorry,
I do go on a little too much)
