Well, as I said in my last message, I am now back and could rejoin the
story writing circle, but it seems to be in limbo at the moment. Is it
with Darwin still?
Interesting things about my trip to the UK:
1. There is *no* barrier between Platforms 9 and 10 at King's Cross. We
took the train to Edinburgh out of King's Cross and I (of course) just
had to see. My husband told me I was stupid for assuming there *would*
be a wall there. <g>
2. Nicolson's in Edinburgh -- where JKR allegedly began writing Stone. I
was picturing a quaint coffee shop since supposedly she would go there,
drink coffee and write like crazy while her infant daughter slept in
the stroller (all because she couldn't afford to heat her flat). Well,
it's actually a trendy hip and somewhat pricey restaurant. And, it's on
the second floor of a building with no lift, which I would think would
not be the most attractive place to wheel a baby carriage. Anyway, a
cup of coffee there now would run a fair bit for a starving writer. I
was disappointed.
Speaking of being offended at the books being classified in the 9-12
category -- the HP books apparently aren't really on the official
bestseller list over there so they are housed in the children's section
(although you can pick up the "adult cover" versions in the main fiction
sections). I like it better that in the US bookstores, HP seems to be
really in the mainstream of the displays.
