On the other hand, have you noticed that the running for house cup
is usually down to Gryffindor and Slytherin? And the other two houses
always cheer on Gryffindor with an attitude of "Well, as long as it's
not Slytherin..." Ever wonder why we never see Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw
stand up and say, "Hey, we want that house cup too!"

In Sorcorer's/Philosopher's Stone, for example, when Harry, Ron, and
Neville lost all those points, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff resented them,
because it put Slytherin in the lead. And at the end, when Harry and
company gained back enough points to take them from the bottom to the
top, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff were cheering as hard as Gryffindor. Even
the house that was now at the bottom (I think it was Hufflepuff) wasn't
upset by that fact.
