You can say that again!  People I talk to about Dumbledore seem to come to a
few different conclusions.  #1 is that JKR is just inconsistent and hasn't
thought out Dumbledore carefully enough.  #2 is that Dumbledore is actually
a bad guy.  #3 is that Dumbledore is so wise he knows exactly how much
danger and evil Harry needs.  #4 is that Dumbledore shows his humanity
precisely through the lapses in his all-knowingness.  I like #3 and #4 best.
