The dementors scare me the most, too.  Since I'm new here, I'm not sure if
people have discussed that I believe Rowling has said in interviews that she
created them specifically thinking of her experience with depression.  As
someone who has had experiences with depression myself, I find them totally
convincing in that respect.  That really IS what depression is like.

And therefore, I find even more grimly humorous her prescription for
recovering from a dementor's attack: eat chocolate.
