> We are told that Percy used to own Scabbers, right? And Fred and
George had the map for ages. On Lupin's desk, the map revealed
Peter's real name, not Scabbers. Wouldn't F&G have noticed this
before, and knew something wasn't right? I really don't think they'd
let that mystery go without investigating?

This reminds me that I have always been somewhat confused about the
way that Gred and Forge passed the map to Harry, saying that they
"had
memorized it already" and that it wouldn't be much good to them
anymore (paraphrasing). Knowing the nature of the map, there really
is nothing to memorize, exactly, and its function is to show the
"here
and now" so it would never become obsolete...

...I want to think that Gred and Forge no longer need this particular
Marauders' Map because they have developed a New and improved
Marauders' Map, which leaves this one as, more or less, a prototype,
In that way, they would no longer need it.

Hail Hufflepuff!!
