I'm sorry I haven't posted here until now. Since Thursday, I haven't
been able to access the eGroups web site from work. I've had no such
problems on my home computer, and at work, it's only recent, and (as
far as I know) limited to eGroups. I suspect my company has recently
restricted our computers from the site. Maybe some of us were
spending too much time there, and for some reason, they want us to
actually do our jobs <g>!
At any rate, I've just caught up on all my posts for this club (in
both Yahoo! and eGroups), and I wanted to address a few of the issues
I saw tossed around.
YAHOO! ALTER EGOS:
On Yahoo!, I'm better known as ravenclawlady, though I was also in the
club as melaniem68. You will be hearing from the ravenclawlady here,
as well. I just signed up here under ravenclawlady at yahoo.com, so I
could at least follow the discussion when I'm at work. That is
assuming that the Yahoo! site doesn't become restricted there, and
that my Yahoo! ID isn't destroyed by a hacker. Which brings me to...
THREATS:
I saw that post yesterday too. I immediately went to delete the
poster from the club, but saw he was already gone. At first, I
thought he'd just joined the club long enough to have his say, then
jumped ship. I later saw in the eGroups messages that Penny had
deleted him. I guess great minds think alike (and so do ours).
I did, however, report the message to TOS Abuse. If Penny or anyone
else also did, great. My message will just reinforce theirs.
FANFIC
As you may have already seen, I added a folder in the "Files" section,
labeled "Fanfic". That way, our many (several?) fanfiction authors
have a place to post their work, for easy access by the rest of us. A
couple of weeks before the move, Jim asked if the club had a place for
such a thing. Well Jim, we have that here! The first thing I'll put
in there, on your behalf, is "The Granger Interview". Great piece,
BTW.
MESSAGE ORDER
I believe that is, unfortunately, eGroups-wide. I belong to a list
dealing with Yahoo merger issues, and see that complaint often there.
HTML POSTING
Someone (I think it was Dee) asked how HTML messages appeared on the
digest and on text-only e-mail. It doesn't show HTML tags, per se.
It does, however, throw in a lot of extraneous symbols. The most
common is an = or an =20 at the end of each line. Also, if the
message is sent with "special" quotation marks, an apostrophe will
appear as an =92 (quotation marks also show as an = and a number, but
I've forgotten which). So, for example, the word "you're" will appear
as "you=92re".
Well, I think that's all the business for now. Tomorrow, I hope to
start up again with the "fun" posts.
