>>>Aye, but you can be 17 years old and detest Elton John and all
his musical output with a passion. Thing is, there's a kind of threshold around the age of 11 or 12 where it suddenley becomes very, very, very unhip to like boy band -style music. At least in this country, and at least for boys.<<<

So true....I am in the Big Brother program. My little bro is 9, and already he is caught in this trap - WANTS to still like the Backstreet Boys, but at camp this year he was introduced to Kid Rock. His mom managed to hold off that one, until his dumb uncle bought him the Kid Rock CD - dirty lyrics and all, effectively destroying a small part of the child inside of him. It's sad really, because a kid 9 years old should not have to hear songs like "American BadA$$." But he still loves Harry Potter, so there is hope yet!

As for songs on the soundtrack, I was kind of hoping there won't be ANY pop songs in the movie itself, as I don't see how any pop music would fit the tone of the book to begin with. If pop music was mentioned in the book at all (in a similar fashion to the way Quidditch stars are given some recognition in GoF) then it might have been OK. But it seems that wizards, as far as we know in the first book, don't have much in the way of music.

I was hoping for a much more traditional soundtrack - more akin to Star Wars and such with a symphonic leaning, rather than a pop song thrown in just for the sake of having one. I think having one over the closing credits would be ok, but that's about all.
