I had the same trouble for a while, on my original Egroups account.  Then,
while I was fiddling with my Egroup account settings I happened to change my
Email address from my permanent Yahoo one to the address at my current ISP.
That exorcized those deamons, although I've since removed the Egroup account
from email mode.  Over the weekend, I also set up new Yahoo and Egroups
accounts (the Aberforths_Goat ones) just for my Harry Potter activities.
They've worked just fine from day one.  Weird.
