I believe it was changed because Americans would not know what a 
Philosopher's Stone is............

There are some words in the books (a friend of mine has the UK versions) that 
US kids and even adults would just not know. The UK word for Field....rather 
than Quidditch field is something else in the UK books. There are changes 
like that because US readers may not know the terms.
