Alix,

Without being specific, don't get the impression that Gollum 
sacrifices himself in a noble way - that is not the case.  Gollum iss 
bad, and remains bad, right till the end;  his actions are for the 
betterment of others in the grand scheme, but he is never concerned 
with anything other than "his precious."

I hope I havn't given too much away.  The ending is stunning, and you 
will be moved upon arriving there.  Enjoy the journey!
