But he was speaking to one of the manufacturers! This is what I don't
understand. That whole exchange is so strange if you assume he knows at the
time that Lupin is Moony, from both Snape and Lupin.

And so he accepted Dumbledore's word, as someone suggested, and later
Dumbledore explained it to him? I can go with that; Snape is nothing if not
loyal.

Yeah, I thought that was really significant, and could portend all sorts of
things.
