Is anybody here familiar with Arthur Miller's play "The Crucible"?
Basically it is a retelling of the Salem witch trials in the context
of the time it was written (the McCarthy era); it's allegorical
purpose was, I believe, to show how dangerous "witch hunts" like
Senator McCarthy's were. Not one of the best things I've ever read,
in my opinion, but very interesting given its background.
Anyway, it's sort of interesting that we are referecing McCarthy
while talking about witches, seeing as how Arthur Miller referenced
witches to talk about McCarthy.
