No apology needed.  I got this message after I posted a response to 
it (which I hope wasn't offensive either).  

For those of us who are men and women of letters, plagiarism is what 
horse theft was to the settlers of the Old West.  It's a sin I 
despise in my students, in my colleagues, and in fellow writers.  As 
I didn't phrase myself very well in the original post, I can see 
where it could have been misconstrued.

Ah, well, such is the nature of e-mail.  Virtual interaction has its 
pluses as well as its pitfalls.
