Recommended Book for 4th Grader

Hi, IMO, I would recommend the Narnia books over the LOTR and the 
Hobbit, which would probably be over his head.  I read Narnia, or at 
least "The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe" in the 5th grade and he 
might could handle these....I really don't know how adavaced he is 
tho'.  Also maybe the Susan Cooper Books. 

I'm considering either The Hobbit, which I read in high
