Yeah, apparently Harry can't be touched while he's with blood relatives, and
in order to bring that about, old magic was invoked. Which could possibly
be another reason why Voldemort couldn't seriously injure him when he was
with his parents, quite apart from Lily's sacrifice.
Don't know about anyone else, but I was strongly reminded of the Deeper
Magic from before the Dawn of Time, which saves Aslan in The Lion, The Witch
and The Wardrobe - I was also thinking of this regarding Lily's sacrifice.
In both books innocent parties willingly sacrifice their lives to save
another, although in Aslan's case the magic works because he was sacrificed
in the stead of a traitor, and he returns to life, whereas Lily dies trying
to protect her innocent son, and isn't even aware of the protection she
bestows on Harry.
