True...I agree.
Now that would argue against the audience and/or judges viewing the
proceeding magically somehow. Why would a signal have to be sent up if the
judges presumably could see something was wrong?
So therefore I still think that Harry and Cedric weren't missed, unless
Dumbledore thought the tournament was taking an unusually long time to
finish and a champion to appear.

No, reaching a bit, but why not? - surely it was up to the Champions to
decide when they needed resucing, its a test of mettle amoungst other things
- and so there would be no interferance until help was requested - and -
this lends wait to the 'they could see what was going on theory' because if
they got really badly hurt (unconsious or dead) they woun't have been able
to send up sparkes but they still would have needed rescuing. I can't see in
the new improved safer triwizard championship that this would not have been
considered. Which leads me to wonder about how faux Moody got away with
lurking - hiding under the 12 ft hedge I guess.
